Do you know what a serum is and how to use it?
Many times we have wondered what is the difference between serum and cream . These are two "must haves" which are now part of the beauty routine of millions of women and which are essential for correct "hydration" of the face.
The skin, in fact, which is the largest organ of the human body, needs water to keep it stretched and bright. For this reason, moisturizing the skin is a good habit from a young age.
But to obtain the desired results it is necessary to know and choose the serums correctly and to combine them with the creams chosen specifically for the different skin types and the different functions.
The face cream is a blend, an emulsion of active ingredients, oils and water that nourishes the skin. There are different types that differ in the phases of the day (day and night), or in the main actions (anti-aging, anti-wrinkle, anti-stain, etc.).
In general, the face cream performs the function of moisturizing and depending on the formulations it can have a nourishing, elasticising or firming action. The dense and heavy ingredients of the creams have the task of creating a barrier on the skin, defending it from external agents and retaining moisture and, therefore, natural hydration.
For example, the night face cream is used to give the skin hydration throughout the day by absorbing the active ingredients in the hours of rest, while the day face cream is used to protect the skin from smog and external agents and constitutes an excellent basis for trick.
The serum completes all skincare products and amplifies their effect. No wonder many women, not just beauty consultants or make-up artists, can't do without them. Serums are the most effective weapon to combat specific skin problems, from aging to enlarged pores or an uneven complexion. Super concentrated, powerful and rich in beneficial substances for the skin, they must be applied correctly so as not to nullify their effects, so as to obtain maximum results. The serum does not contain lipophilic excipients and for this reason its is a cosmetic formulation that allows the active ingredients, present in the right concentration, to reach their goal sooner. Serums contain the most potent dose of ingredients:
Peptides are the last frontier of cosmetic active ingredients and a great ally of skin beauty thanks to the formulation with very small, easily absorbable molecules that penetrate deeply, reaching the heart of the cell more easily. Since active ingredients are more expensive than excipients, serums are often more expensive. On the other hand, they should not be used in the same quantity as a face cream and therefore have a longer duration. If applied correctly they can last even months and the dropper bottles are of great help because they allow you to dose the product without wasting it.
Due to the concentrated nature that characterizes it, whey is the classic example of " less is more ".
The skin is in fact able to absorb only a small amount of product to the point that an excessive amount could make the skin oily or favor the appearance of imperfections.
Before applying the serum, always make sure your fingers are clean, to prevent bacteria from spreading on the skin and avoid the appearance of imperfections.
The serum in a small quantity should be placed on 5 points of the face before being spread with the fingertips. The 5 points are located in the center of the forehead, on the nose, on the chin and on each cheek: this distribution guarantees uniformity and the correct quantity.
When applying the serum, always spread it starting from the center of the face outwards and never forget the neck and décolleté.
The serum should be applied before the moisturizer, as it has a higher concentration of active ingredients that are fixed by the moisturizer and/or nourishing cream. Furthermore, after carefully cleansing the face and waiting for the skin to dry, it is recommended to apply serum and moisturizer within a couple of minutes or in any case the time necessary to guarantee longer protection times and prevent the skin from "pulling".
When applying the serum it is absolutely not necessary to massage for a long time: if you do it it means that you are using an excessive amount of product: the secret lies in applying small doses of different products to correctly perform the specific layering for each skin type and aimed at preventing blemishes without having to resort to extreme treatments that are of little use even if the cosmetics are of high quality.
The face serum offers several benefits:
- absorbs quickly thanks to the thinner viscosity which allows the serum to be absorbed more easily by the skin and to be the first layer of the layering
- soothes sensitive skin due to its lightweight formulation which is ideal for those suffering from acne-prone or oily skin
- improves the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles thanks to the presence of retinol or peptides
- protects the skin from free radicals and damage thanks to ingredients such as Vitamins E and C and ferulic acid
- provides more visible results thanks to the higher concentration of active ingredients.
